U.S Senator Cory Booker has added his name to Mariah Carey’s history of suitors, or at least he says so.
On June 11, The Shade Room shared an interview with the New Jersey representative who revealed he once went on a date with the elusive chanteuse.
“This is going to make some news, I guess,” he said. “But years ago, years ago, I was set up on sort of a blind date with Mariah Carey.”
Unable to hold back her surprise, interviewer Thembi Mawema replied flat out, “No.”

Confirming with a chuckle, the 56-year-old replied, “Yes.”
The story carried on with Booker explaining how the date unfolded.
“It was one of those times where you just know you’re in the presence of somebody that has a grandeur about them,” he continued. “And I’m not talking about her talent, but she just has this light. We laughed and had a good time … It was clearly not a love match.”
Joking about the possibility that Carey might come out and reject Booker’s narrative, and potentially knowing him, the interviewer asked if he thought the singer would corroborate the story.

Booker replied with a bit of bashful earnestness.
“I feel some kind of way, but her brother and cousin was there, too. There were witnesses,” he continued before turning to the camera as if to address the singer. “Don’t deny me, Mariah. Don’t deny me now.”
In 2020, Booker — then a presidential candidate— confirmed that he was dating actor Rosario Dawson. In 2022, they were reported to have ended their relationship.
Carey’s most recent public relationship was with choreographer and dancer Bryan Tanaka, whom she began dating in 2016. Seven years after their romance began, Tanaka confirmed in a December 2023 Instagram post that they had gone their separate ways.
