đ¨ Spoilers ahead for the ending of the first âWickedâ movie and the Broadway musical.
The witches of Oz are back â this time, for good.
The âWickedâ storyline continues, as the trailer for the long-awaited second movie dropped June 4, giving fans a glimpse into how Glinda and Elphabaâs story ultimately plays out.
The âWicked: For Goodâ trailer brings back the filmâs beloved and star-studded cast, including an update on Cynthia Erivoâs Elphaba and Ariana Grandeâs Glinda friendship, as well as the love triangle dynamic between Jonathan Bailey’s Prince Fiyero.
Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible and Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard are also seen in the first look, showcasing the power they have over Oz.
Fans can also get excited as they hear teases of songs featured in the sequel, including âNo Good Deedâ and âFor Good.â
âWicked: For Goodâ is set to hit theaters Nov. 21.
Unlike the first half, which matches the soundtrack to Act 1 of the Broadway musical, the second âWickedâ film features two new songs, composer Stephen Schwartz previously told TODAY.com.
The title for the second half of the story comes from the heart-wrenching ballad between Glinda and Elphaba, âFor Good,â which is historically sung at the end of the stage show.
Though the detailed plot line for the next âWickedâ movie has not yet been fully revealed, itâs expected to follow the musical â similar to the initial release.
What Is âWickedâ Part 2 About?
The two âWickedâ movies are set up to mirror the âWickedâ stage production, wherein Act 1 and Act 2 are two separate films. (Gregory Maguireâs 1995 novel, âWicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West,â is the source material.)
If the second movie follows Act 2, Glinda will have been named Glinda the Good and is engaged to Fiyero. While Glinda is beloved by all of Oz, Elphaba has been deemed the Wicked Witch of the West and is universally feared. After escaping Oz during her show-stopping âDefying Gravityâ to wrap the first âWickedâ movie, Elphaba is at the center of a search by the Wizard and Madame Morrible.
Act 2 also begins to reimagine the famed events of the 1939 film âThe Wizard of Oz.â
The musical explains how Dorothyâs friends found themselves on the yellow brick road, as Boq is transformed into Tin Man and Fiyero becomes Scarecrow. The lion cub from Act 1, or the first âWickedâ film, has grown into the Cowardly Lion. Act 2 also credits Madame Morrible with creating the tornado that brings Dorothy to Oz and causes a house to land on the Wicked Witch of the East, formerly Nessarose.
With the knowledge of âThe Wizard of Ozâ characters, the audience can see throughout âWickedâ the deception of good and evil, experiencing a glimpse at how close Glinda was to her friendâs witch hunt.
